Authorities identified 50-year-old Leslie Coombes, of Russellville, Arkansas, as the man who lost his life following a two-vehicle accident on Tuesday in St. Charles Parish.
Officers actively responded to the area of LA 18 (River Road) at LA 3142 just after 7:30 pm on reports of a car crash. According to the investigation reports, Leslie Coombes was driving a 2014 Mazda 3 north on LA 3142 approaching the LA 18 intersection. On the other hand, a 2022 Honda Accord was heading east on LA 18, approaching the LA 3142 intersection.
For unknown reasons, Coombes failed to yield to oncoming traffic and started to turn west onto LA 18, entering the path of the Honda. The front of the Honda crashed into the driver’s side of the Mazda. Coombes was buckled up at the time of the collision. On arrival, medical personnel rushed him to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
It is unknown if the driver and passenger of the Honda were wearing seatbelts at that time. Both received moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment on the part of both drivers is unclear and routine toxicology results are pending. No other details are available.
The crash remains under review.
