In a tragic incident in northwest Harris County on Friday, a pedestrian, Joaquin Martinez, lost his life while crossing West Mount Houston Road. The fatal crash occurred around 9:50 p.m.
Harris County Constable Pct. 1 reported that Martinez was struck by a black GMC Sierra driven by Salvador Carranza Ventura. Constable deputies, including one driving behind the GMC, witnessed the incident. The pedestrian, described as being in his 50s or 60s, was thrown approximately 150 feet. This caused him to be fatally injured, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Despite efforts by a vehicle in front of Ventura to swerve, there was no reactionary time.
The constable deputy’s dash cam recorded the incident. Investigators are probing the circumstances, emphasizing that Ventura showed no signs of intoxication. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is actively investigating the pedestrian accident.
