50-year-old Hector Mario Chavez dead following a hit-and-run accident in the Lower Valley (El Paso, TX)

Authorities identified 50-year-old Hector Mario Chavez as the man who lost his life after being hit by a motorcycle early Monday in an industrial area in the Lower Valley.

As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run accident took place in the 7100 block of Chino Drive. The preliminary reports showed that Hector Mario Chavez was walking on the street when a 2004 Yamaha Road Star motorcycle struck him at around 12:30 a.m.

After the collision, the injured motorcyclist, identified as 45-year-old Bobby Gabaldon left the scene on foot but a police officer found him “covered in blood and tattered clothing” about a quarter-mile away. Gabaldon was taken to a hospital with injuries sustained in the crash.

Once discharged from the hospital, Gabaldon will be booked into the El Paso County Jail on a charge of accident involving death. Bond has been set at $75,000. No other information is available.

An investigation is ongoing.
