A tragic pedestrian accident unfolded on Thursday morning as a 50-year-old man, identified as Byron Gonzalez, was struck and killed while walking on Highway 33 near McCracken Road, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Gonzalez lost his life around 5 a.m. when a Nissan pickup driven by a Stockton resident collided with him while traveling south on Highway 33. Emergency personnel found Gonzalez lying in the southbound lane and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Initial investigations by CHP indicate that drugs or alcohol were not factors in the fatal crash. The investigation is ongoing to determine the pedestrian’s specific location before the collision, with no arrests made thus far.
