A hit-and-run accident in Gardena claimed the life of a 5-year-old boy, identified as Patrick Chacon of Gardena, as he crossed a street with his grandmother. The tragedy unfolded around 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Marine and Budlong Avenues, prompting a response from the Gardena Police Department.

While one pedestrian was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, young Patrick succumbed to his injuries at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. Initial investigations revealed an unknown driver traveling eastbound on Marine Avenue collided with both pedestrians in the crosswalk before fleeing the fatal crash. The grandmother’s injuries remain undisclosed.
