The California Highway Patrol reported a multi-vehicle accident on Sunday.
The accident occurred on the Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura County shortly before 4.30 a.m.
The officials reported that a vehicle had crossed the center lines into oncoming traffic and then struck another vehicle head-on.
Both vehicles were engulfed in flames. All five occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
There was one man in the car and four occupants in the SUV.
The victims have not been identified.
The officials have not reported a cause for the crash and it is still being investigated.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal accident.
