The Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash in Natchitoches on Sunday morning.

The accident happened near mile marker 128 on Interstate 49 at around 3 a.m.

The roll-over collision involved two vehicles.

Five people were hurt as a result of two vehicles overturning.

Four others were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals, while one was airlifted there. 

The names and identities of the victims have not been disclosed by the authorities.

Deputies diverted traffic from the interstate at the Cypress exit onto Highway 120 while they investigated the crash.

For a few hours, the interstate was closed while the scene was being investigated. 

It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
