5 people, including 2 children are in critical condition after a multi-vehicle pile-up in Phoenix (Phoenix, AZ)

Five people, including two children were left in critical condition following a wreck in north Phoenix on Wednesday night.

The Phoenix Police Department actively responded to the area of 43rd Avenue and Cactus Road at about 6 p.m. after getting reports of a four-car pile-up. The early reports showed that three adults, including two men and one woman, were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

A 5-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl were also taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Four other people were involved in the collision, but did not need to be taken immediate medical care. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear. The intersection will remain shut down for several hours while crews work at the scene.

The wreck remains under review.
