The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning in Nogales. Protección Civil Sonora reports that the collision occurred on the Nogales-Muris Highway, south of the Arizona-Mexico border, at around 8 a.m.
According to the authorities, a southbound Arizona-registered vehicle made a U-turn into the northbound lanes and collided head-on with a Sinaloa-registered vehicle.
The five occupants of the Sinaloa vehicle passed away at the scene. The two Arizona car occupants suffered injuries and were taken to a Nogales hospital for treatment. Officials withheld releasing the names of those involved.
The fatal collision is being investigated by the officials. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. Additional details regarding the crash are not available currently.
