The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported a motor vehicle crash on Thursday.
The accident happened on Interstate 20 close to the Chandler Boulevard exit.
During the collision, two cars were sandwiched between the semis, which caused a fire. A semi rear-ended a car and slammed into the back of another semi. Two additional vehicles that were in front of the collision were also hurt. One of the sandwiched vehicles had a child’s car seat visible inside, but due to the smoldering nature of the vehicles, further investigation has been impossible.
Five people were pronounced dead at the scene.
The identities of the victims have not been disclosed.
The fatal crash is being investigated.
