The Galveston Police Department stated that a man on a scooter was struck by a car on Sunday. The reported multi-vehicle accident that took place at an intersection near 53rd Street and Seawall Boulevard, on Avenue U.
The victim, 49, was riding a scooter westbound on Avenue U and had stopped at a stop sign. When the scooter began moving into the intersection, a blue Nissan Altima that was northbound ran the red light and struck the scooter.
The rider was ejected from the scooter and landed on the windshield of a truck that stopped at the intersection. He was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the truck was also taken to a hospital for treatment with no life-threatening injuries.
The Nissan driver was taken into custody under suspicion of driving under the influence. Police officials have not disclosed the victim’s identity yet.
