Phoenix authorities reported a hit-and-run accident that took place in central Phoenix on Sunday night, and stated that it had claimed the life of 1 person. The incident reportedly took place at approximately 7:30 p.m at the intersection of Seventh Street and McDowell Road. Officers responding to the scene discovered a man with severe injuries. The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Magellan Rutaneahwa.
Firefighters arrived at the scene, making efforts to rescue Rutaneahwa’s life; however, he did not survive.
A preliminary investigation reveals that the victim was in the process of crossing Seventh Street when he was struck by a northbound vehicle on Seventh Street. Speed is suspected to have played a role in this collision. The Phoenix police are actively on the lookout for the vehicle.
