Officials identified 49-year-old Kevin Spruell Sr as the man who died following a single-vehicle accident Monday in Joshua Tree.
The fatal car crash took place at around 8:40 p.m. on Center Avenue and Shifting Sands Drive. According to the investigation reports, 24-year-old Joshua Tree man was driving a northbound 2000 Chevrolet Tracker in which Spruell Sr was in the passenger seat.
The driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He unsafely turned his vehicle to the left and the vehicle flipped over onto a dirt berm on private property. Reports further added that Spruell Sr and the driver were not buckled up at the time of the accident.
Both of them were ejected from the vehicle. Spruell Sr succumbed to his injuries after the crash. The driver was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in Palms Springs with major injuries. No other details are made available.
An investigation is continuing.
