The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident on Friday night. The accident happened on Highway 3, north of Bremerton National Airport at around 8 p.m.
A man who has since been identified as 49-year-old Jason D Martel from Silverdale was riding his motorbike on the highway. He was seen passing several vehicles on Highway 3 illegally as he approached the roundabout in the north.
The motorbike struck the side-view mirror of a car travelling north, picked up speed as it approached the roundabout, curved at the roundabout and hit an island in the middle, it lost control.
Martel was thrown from the bike and landed in the median and declared dead there. According to the report, he was donning a helmet.
The driver of the car that was struck halted and reported the collision to 911. The fatal crash is still being investigated.
