The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a bicycle accident in Cherokee County on Saturday. The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 69 in the morning.
According to the officials, two vehicles were involved in the accident. A 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was headed north on the highway. It then crashed into a bicycle that was headed in the same direction.
The bicyclist incurred fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has since been identified as 49-year-old Derrick Wayne Steele. The driver of the Tahoe, 36-year-old Melanie Renee Reyes, did not incur any injuries.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. There are no other details available.
