A tragic collision between a big rig and a train claimed the life of one person in Dallam County. The incident occurred at 2:40 p.m. at the intersection of US 54 and FM 807 in Conlen, situated between Dalhart and Stratford.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Rene Almenares-Durand, 48, from Dodge City, Kansas, failed to yield the right of way at a train crossing, resulting in his 2012 Freightliner being struck by the train.
Almenares-Durand was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. As a result of the collision, FM 807 was closed temporarily. The DPS is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this fatal crash.
