A tragic three-vehicle accident unfolded on Tuesday just after 8 a.m. in Edinburg at the intersection of Alberta and US 281. The accident resulted in the death of a 48-year-old woman, identified as Maria Emelda Fonseca, a resident of San Juan.
The multi-vehicle accident occurred at 4900 S. Business 281. Fonseca suffered serious injuries and was promptly transported to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance. Despite efforts to save her, Fonseca was fatally injured and was later pronounced dead.
The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing as Edinburg Police work diligently to piece together the details of the fatal crash. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
