According to the California Highway Patrol, a hit-and-run accident occurred in Homeland on Thursday. The crash happened on the eastbound side of the highway, just west of Steinhoff Avenue at around 6:30 p.m.
According to the investigators, a 2013 Mercedes C250 and an unknown 48-year-old were involved in the collision. The driver of the Mercedes eastbound had no time to stop and struck the unknown pedestrian.
The pedestrian was identified as a 48-year-old who suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed.
According to the deputies, it is unclear what caused the crash and if drugs or alcohol were a factor involved. The fatal crash is being investigated by the Homeland Police.
