A tragedy struck California 126, known as “Blood Alley,” claiming the life of a 47-year-old Valencia woman in a five-vehicle collision. The multi-vehicle accident, which occurred three miles east of downtown Piru at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, also left four individuals with minor injuries, all treated and released from area hospitals.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Jose del Carmen Costellanos Gordillo, 23, of Newhall, drifted off the highway’s eastbound lane, initiating a chain reaction. The collision involved a Chrysler New Yorker driven by the victim, Jan R. Jornberg, who attempted to evade the fatal crash by swerving onto the shoulder.
Tragically, Jornberg’s vehicle became pinned against the hillside by a jackknifed tractor-trailer driven by Keith Busby, 42, of Santa Barbara, who braked to avoid the collision ahead.
