The Mesa Police Department reported a multi-vehicle accident on Friday afternoon. The accident occurred on Sossaman Road at around 4 p.m.
According to the officials, a Ford truck was headed south on Sossaman Road at a high speed when it attempted to pass a vehicle by passing left into the two-way left turn lane. This brought it into the path of a Toyota Prius that had moved into the left lane to head west. The two vehicles crashed into each other.
The driver of the Ford incurred serious injuries and is currently in the ICU. There were two children present in the vehicle who were also injured and taken to a hospital. The driver of the Prius was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased victim is not yet known at this time.
The fatal crash is still being investigated.
