A tragic pedestrian accident unfolded on Tuesday morning near Park and 22nd in Tucson, resulting in the death of 46-year-old Sarah Marie Chavez. The Tucson Police Department reported that Chavez was fatally struck by a white 2014 Dodge Charger while attempting to cross E. 22nd St. from south to north.

Despite being in a marked crosswalk, she crossed against the signal with a green light for eastbound and westbound traffic. The Charger, exceeding the 30 mph nighttime speed limit, collided with Chavez. The driver cooperated with authorities about the fatal crash and was found not impaired but lacked a valid driver’s license.

While Chavez’s actions were deemed the primary factor, the investigation centres on the Charger’s speed. As the inquiry unfolds, no citations or charges have been issued.
