According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal crash was reported in Tracy. Officials confirmed that one person was injured due to the motor vehicle accident.
Authorities stated that the collision occurred near Joaquin River. A woman drove her car into the river. As the car was floating, the lady along with her 5-year-old daughter screamed for help. A samaritan jumped into the river and saved their lives.
The woman and her daughter were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the woman has since succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The officials have since identified the woman as 46-year-old Melanie Caligiuri.
The cause of the accident remains unknown. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The crash continues to be investigated by the CHP.
