The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident in Carson on Friday night. The accident occurred on the northbound lanes of the San Diego Freeway, near the weigh station between Avalon Boulevard and Main Street, at around 11:20 p.m.
According to the officials, two vehicles were involved in a collision. A 2019 Buick Encore crashed into a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia. The Encore had been driving down the road when it crashed into the big rig as the latter slowed down to enter the exit.
The driver of the Buick was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The officials have since identified the victim as 46-year-old Francisco Mora. The driver of the big rig was not injured.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
