The Arizona Department of Public Safety had previously reported a fatal hit-and-run crash at Apache Junction on Sunday evening. The accident occurred on U.S. 60 at 7:40 p.m.
According to the officials, a pedestrian was walking on the Meridian Road off-ramp on the highway when she was hit. The vehicle had fled the scene before the officials could arrive.
The DPS officials have now reported that the driver responsible for the fatal crash turned himself in to the authorities at 8 a.m. on Monday. The officials have reported that 45-year-old Robert Mayer was arrested on the charge of leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
There is no update on the identity of the victim at this time. However, she has been revealed to be a 16-year-old girl from Mesa.
