The California Highway Patrol reported a multi-vehicle accident on Saturday. The accident occurred on Highway 138, east of Highway 18 at about 6:55 a.m. on Friday. 

According to the officials, a silver pickup truck was headed west on Highway 138 when it crossed into the eastbound lanes and into the path of a 2013 Dodge Durango. The Dodge had to take evasive action which made it lose control and crash into a 2016 Kia Forte and a 2020 Toyota Tacoma. 

The driver of the Kia, identified only as a 45-year-old Highland man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the other two vehicles involved in the crash incurred minor injuries. Their identities are not yet known. 

The wrong-way vehicle fled the scene before the police could arrive. As such, it is not known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal crash.
