A tragic collision in Mesa resulted in the death of a man early Saturday morning, as a multi-vehicle accident involving a Valley Metro bus unfolded. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Joseph Christenson, was pronounced dead at the fatal crash scene near Gilbert Road and Southern Avenue at 5:40 am.
According to police reports, Christenson, traveling east, crossed the centerline into westbound lanes, colliding head-on with the bus before spinning out and striking a truck.
Despite efforts by emergency responders to extricate him from the wreckage, Christenson was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
Remarkably, there were no reported injuries among the bus passengers or the truck driver. The investigation into the crash’s cause continues, with authorities exploring the possibility of a medical issue or impairment contributing to the tragedy.
