45-year-old Grand Rapids man dead in an auto-pedestrian crash (Grand Rapids, MI)

A 45-year-old Grand Rapids man lost his life after getting struck by a Rapid bus on Friday afternoon, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department.

As per the initial information, authorities actively responded to the area of South Division Ave and McConnell Street SW at about 2:15 p.m. after getting reports of an auto-pedestrian accident. On arrival, responders found a 45-year-old Grand Rapids man with injuries. He was then rushed to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation showed that the bus was pulling away from the platform when the man stumbled from the platform and into the side of the moving bus then on to the roadway where he was hit again. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified.

The incident remains under review.
