The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident in Banning on Friday. Fred Robles, 45, of Idyllwild, was found dead at the wheel of his car beside Highway 243, south of Banning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, it appears Robles lost control of his 2010 Volkswagen Beetle on the mountain corridor, veering off the road and descending 20 feet into dense vegetation.
The motor vehicle accident was reported to Forest Rangers around 11:30 a.m., and after helicopter assistance, the vehicle was located with Robles inside. The exact cause of death is yet unknown, and neither alcohol nor drugs seem to be involved.
The fatal crash is under ongoing investigation.
