The Maricopa Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash on Sunday night. The accident happened close to Honeycutt and Gunsmoke at around 8:30 p.m.
The Blue Dodge Charger and Nissan Altima drivers were both travelling at excessive speeds when one of them lost control and collided with the other, striking a third unrelated car as a result.
When police arrived, they found a 25-year-old man who had been thrown from his blue Dodge Charger and was already dead from his injuries.
Deedrik Manning, 45 of the second vehicle, was trapped inside his Altima and was observed to be visibly intoxicated. After receiving medical attention, he was taken to jail on manslaughter charges. The third involved driver escaped without harm.
The fatal crash investigation is still ongoing. Manning’s booking photo wasn’t immediately accessible.
