A tragedy struck on Sunday as a collision on Highway 246 west of Mission Gate Road resulted in the death of one man and left another with major injuries. The California Highway Patrol-Buellton Area (CHP) identified the deceased as 44-year-old Lompoc resident, Nils G. Gustavson.
The 28-year-old man from Solvang, who sustained major injuries, was transported to Lompoc Medical Center. The multi-vehicle accident occurred around 3:36 p.m. on Feb. 11, when Gustavson’s 1997 SAAB sedan, traveling westbound, collided with a 2023 Chevrolet pick-up truck traveling eastbound.
CHP reports indicate Gustavson veered into the eastbound lanes, resulting in the collision.
Gustavson was fatally injured and was declared dead in the fatal crash. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
