The Washington State Patrol reported a pedestrian accident in Bellingham on Saturday evening. The accident occurred on State Route 539 near Smith at around 8:40 p.m.
According to the officials, a single vehicle and a man were involved in the collision. The man had been trying to move trash out of the road when he was hit by a vehicle.
The man was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased victim is not yet known at this time. The officials have reported him to be a 44-year-old man.
The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The officials have confirmed that drugs and alcohol did not play a role. The fatal crash is still being investigated.
