44-year-old J Calderon killed after a DUI crash in Sunnyside; David Gomez-Perez charged (Sunnyside, WA)

On Monday, 44-year-old J Calderon died following a DUI crash in Sunnyside.

The fatal two-vehicle crash took place just before 5:40 p.m. on Van Belle Road and Washout Road. On arrival, responding officers found a white Nissan pickup in the canal. J Calderon suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. Officials said that the driver of the other vehicle was stumbling around nearby.

According to the officials, Calderon was northbound on Washout Road when 26-year-old David Gomez-Perez ran a stop sign and crashed into Calderon’s vehicle. Gomez-Perez admitted that he drank 4-5 beers and used cocaine hours before the accident. Officials charged Gomez-Perez with vehicular homicide. No other details are available.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
