On Sunday, 44-year-old David Butela, a resident of Grand Rapids, lost his life following a single-vehicle rollover accident in Allegan County.
The fatal incident took place at around 7 a.m. when officers received a call from a witness who informed that a vehicle flipped over on the right shoulder of southbound US-131 near 118th Avenue in Martin Township. On arrival, responders found a man dead in the driver’s seat of a 2012 Buick passenger car with his seatbelt on.
There were no other occupants in or close to the vehicle. The early reports revealed that the vehicle was heading south on US-131 when it drifted off the right shoulder at a high speed, lost control and rolled several times.
Reports further showed that the accident occurred several hours before it was found. The collision is still under investigation pending lab analysis and prosecutor’s review. Authorities believe that alcohol played a role in the accident.
The cause of the crash remains under review.
