A tragic two-vehicle collision turned into a fatal crash on I-20 between Baird and Putnam on Sunday morning. Emergency crews responded to the crash, located seven miles east of Baird, at 11:10 a.m. on January 28.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2017 Freightliner, towing a Hyundai, was stationary on the I-20 westbound shoulder due to engine troubles. While the driver attempted repairs, a 2011 Freightliner, towing a Reitnouer trailer, veered out of its lane and struck the individual outside the disabled vehicle.
The collision resulted in the death of one person. The 2017 Freightliner’s driver, identified as 43-year-old Yan Broytman from Frisco, Texas was fatally injured and was pronounced dead.
The driver of the 2011 Freightliner emerged unharmed. Trooper Matthew Howe, assisted by troopers from Baird and Albany, is leading the investigation into this tragic multi-vehicle accident.
