The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a multi-vehicle accident in Odessa on Wednesday. The accident occurred on U.S. 385 and FM 1787 at around 4 p.m.
According to the officials, a grey Mitsubishi Outlander had been driving down the highway when it ran a red light. This caused it to crash into a Nissan Frontier.
There were two occupants of the Nissan that were fatally injured in the crash. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials later reported that the two victims were an adult and a 9-year-old child.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, identified as 43-year-old Gerad Sandate, had fled the scene after the fatal crash but was later found and arrested. He was charged with two counts of intoxicated manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death.
