The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office reported a motor vehicle accident in El Cajon. The accident occurred on a freeway connector near Parkway Plaza Mall at around 6.30 p.m.
According to the officials, a Ford van was headed down the ramp from southbound State Route 67 to westbound Interstate 8 when it lost control. It went off the roadway and crashed into a sign before veering onto an embankment and hitting a tree.
The driver of the vehicle incurred fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has since been identified as 43-year-old Christopher Dembowski.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
