Early Monday morning, tragedy struck in the LaCamp community of Vernon Parish as a Hicks man lost his life in a fatal crash. Louisiana State Police reported that Michael Wellman, 42, died at the scene of the wreck around 6:30 a.m.
Wellman was driving a 2016 Nissan Frontier southbound on La. Highway 489 when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, causing his vehicle to veer off the road. The Frontier went down an embankment, colliding with a culvert and a tree before overturning.
Unfortunately, Wellman was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
