The Amarillo Police Department reported a two-vehicle accident in downtown Amarillo on Friday. The accident occurred at SE 3rd and Buchanan at around 7:28 p.m.
According to the officials, a GMC truck had been heading east on SE 3rd at a high speed when it ignored the red light at Buchanan and crashed into a Ford sedan heading north.
The driver of the Ford, identified as 42-year-old Laura Sanders, incurred critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to them. The driver of the truck was also taken to a hospital but with non-life-threatening injuries. His identity is not yet known.
The truck driver has not been arrested at this time due to his being in the hospital.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
