The Washington State Patrol Reported a motor vehicle crash in Kennewick on Saturday afternoon. The accident happened on SR 397 at around 4:30 p.m.
Jacob Schouten, 41, was riding his motorcycle south on SR 397. He was struck by a car being driven by a Kennewick man as he was getting close to Gum Street. Authorities claimed that despite Schouten having the right-of-way, the car’s driver failed to yield to the motorcycle as it was traveling east on South Gum Street.
Schouten was not wearing a helmet when he passed away at the scene.
Charges against the driver of the car that struck Schouten are still pending, despite the fact that investigators said there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol in the collision.
The fatal crash is being investigated by the WSP.
