The Cathedral City Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash on Saturday morning. The accident happened on the 67300 block of East Palm Canyon drive at around 2:50 a.m. The collision involved only one vehicle.
A red Toyota sedan was moving quickly westward when the driver veered off the road. According to authorities, the car rolled over after hitting a Southern California Edison power pole, bringing down the pole and power lines.
The driver, Christian Morales, 42 was pronounced dead at the scene.
While SCE made the scene safe and traffic investigators finished their fatal crash investigation, the east and westbound lanes were closed. At 8:45 a.m., East Palm Canyon Drive was reopened.
