Late on Sunday night, a fatal crash near Kountze claimed the life of a 41-year-old Silsbee man, identified as Demarcus Gilder. The motor vehicle accident occurred shortly before 11:00 on Farm to Market Road 418.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Gilder was driving a 2021 Nissan Rogue eastbound when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle veered off the highway, traversed a ditch, and collided with a utility pole guide wire and a fence, causing the vehicle to overturn several times.
Tragically, Gilder was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
