The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident on Saturday in Downey. The accident occurred on the side of the 5 Freeway at around 2:37 a.m.
According to the officials, a car was moving at a high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed the car into a guardrail. It then hit the bridge abutment of the Lemonran Avenue pedestrian crossing. The car split into two on impact.
There were four people present in the vehicle, including the driver. The two rear passengers were ejected onto the right shoulder of the roadway. The driver and the front seat passenger were still in the vehicle as it burst into flames.
All four passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased victims is not yet known at this time.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated.
