The Texas Department of Public Safety had previously reported a single-vehicle crash that took place in Leon County last week. The accident occurred on Interstate Highway 45 shortly before 8 a.m.
According to the officials, a Ford Excursion was headed north on the highway when the rear tire blew out. This caused the vehicle to veer off the roadway and roll.
The driver of the vehicle was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene by Leon County Justice of Peace Randee Doak. She has since been identified as 39-year-old Sarak Maake. There were two other children present in the vehicle of ages 8 and 12. They were flown to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available.
