A 39-year-old man lost his life following a suspected DUI crash Wednesday night on Highway 65 near Roseville.
As per the initial information, the fatal wrong-way accident took place on southbound SR-65 just south of Pleasant Grove Boulevard. According to the authorities, just after 10 p.m., a wrong-way motorist was on southbound SR-65 just south of Pleasant Grove Boulevard when they veered from the center to the left lane, colliding with an oncoming car head-on.
The impact of the collision sent debris flying into another vehicle that was also on the freeway at the time. Both drivers of the cars involved in the head-on crash were immediately taken to the hospital with major injuries. The driver of the car that was hit by the suspect later succumbed to his injuries.
Officers determined that the wrong-way motorist was allegedly driving under the influence of a controlled substance. He was identified as 34-year-old Arturo Garcia, of Carmichael, and was detained for DUI. The identity of the deceased has not been released, but CHP said he was a 39-year-old Roseville resident. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
