Hinga Benson, 39, met a tragic fate when he was struck and killed by a vehicle while standing next to a broken-down Honda Civic on Interstate 5 in Chula Vista.
The pedestrian accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway north of Palomar Street. As Benson stood alongside the stalled vehicle, several cars collided with it. The victim was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities, including the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office and California Highway Patrol, identified Benson as the victim.
The collision, although a fatal crash, did not involve intoxication as a contributing factor, as confirmed by CHP Public Affairs Officer Salvador Castro.
