39-year-old Damon Whaley died after a rear-end collision in Dallam County (Dallam County, TX)

Authorities identified 39-year-old Damon Whaley, from Dalhart, as the man who lost his life following a rear-end collision Friday morning in Dallam County.

The fatal two-vehicle wreck took place on US 87, northwest of Dalhart. According to the authorities, at around 8:15 a.m., a 2001 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a semi-trailer, driven by 58-year-old Billie Morgan, of Dalhart, was driving northwest on US 87 in the right lane. At that point of time, a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Damon Whaley was heading northwest on US 87 behind the 18-wheeler.

The reports revealed that the 18-wheeler signaled and slowed down to make a right turn into a private driveway but, for undetermined reasons, Whaley did not see the semi-truck and trailer slowing down to make the turn and struck the semi-trailer from behind. Whaley was declared dead at the scene by Dallam County Justice of the Peace Carol Smith. Morgan remained unharmed in the accident. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
