The California Highway Patrol reported a multi-vehicle accident in Glendora on Saturday. The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of the 210 Freeway near Grand Avenue.
According to the officials, a semi-truck was headed down the freeway when it became disabled in the third lane after stopping for approximately five minutes. The driver of the semi-truck had switched on the emergency hazard lights as a warning.
However, an off-duty LAPD officer was headed home on the same road when he crashed into the semi-truck. The officer, identified as 39-year-old Baldemar Sandoval, incurred fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the fatal accident is still being investigated. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role.
