The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash on Saturday morning. The accident happened along Highway 12 close to Southworth Road at around 11:30 a.m.
A Valley Springs resident, 50, was following an SUV being driven by Valley Springs resident Shawn Powers, 38, on a 2021 Harley Davidson. The SUV slowed down in order to make a left turn, according to the CHP. The two vehicles collided when the rider attempted to pass on the left side as Powers began to turn.
Power was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital with major injuries after the crash where he succumbed to the injuries and was pronounced dead.
The CHP continues by stating that the rider was moving at a high rate of speed. Additional details regarding the fatal crash are not available currently.
