The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash on Sunday morning. The accident happened on US 97 at around 11:53 a.m.
According to a press release from the WSP, a woman identified as Sara Bassett, 38, of Chico, California, was driving a southbound Ford Fusion on U.S. 97, when she crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound Chevy Silverado pickup.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. The WSP reported that the driver of the Chevy, Richard Lizotte, 72, and the passenger, Cheryl Lizotte, 76, both of Yakima, were injured and taken to Multicare Yakima Memorial Hospital.
The highway was shut down for a while due to the fatal crash.
