A tragedy struck in Cherokee County as an East Texas man lost his life after being struck by a vehicle. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Thursday, Feb. 15, around 10:15 p.m., troopers responded to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian on SH 110 near Ponta.
Harrison Carpenter, 24, of Bryan, was driving a pickup towing a trailer north on SH 110 when he collided with Mark McGowan, 38, of Jacksonville, who was walking south in the northbound lane. Sadly, McGowan was pronounced dead at the scene, while Carpenter escaped uninjured.
The investigation into the pedestrian accident remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
